The desk of wonder and my many faces.

This weekend has been wonderful and I am terribly bummed that it is coming to an end. Initially, the boyfriend and I had intended on going to Nebraska because it would be one more state off of my list. But in the end, we decided to just stay home for the long weekend and it was well worth it.

I was released early from work and went thrift store shopping with my friend and found the best desk in the existence of mankind.

It’s an old 70’s metal school teacher’s desk and it’s absolutely wonderful. Everything I own fits inside. All my paints, faux flowers, pens/markers/pencils, camera stuff AND I still have space to fill it with more junk!! Although, it almost cost me my relationship but I think it has proven it might have been worth it. Haha. The desk weighs approximately a million pounds. It took 4 people to get it inside my apartment, though to be frank one person did most of the work while we marveled at his ability to lift the million pound desk almost all on his own. It was truly astounding.

I have to say, I feel very professional sitting and forming thoughts on it. I feel like a new person. It’s great because I get to have my typewriter to the left and my record player to the right. I feel like I’ve traveled back in time or something like that. I still haven’t finished decorating it with my personal touch but still, it’s quite wonderful. Also, the desk only cost me $29.00. Total steal!

Now, I actually have space where it’s not terribly inconvenient or awkward to take a gander at my external drive. It’s been an interesting time going through all of it because the external drive holds my past, both the good and the bad. I’ve found old photos that make me smile, reduce me tears, or it brings on a face that looks like I’ve just come across a foul odor.

One regret is not having done any exploring or attempt at taking any pictures. I barely even touched my camera. It’s sad because I love it so much. But I’ve decided to just post some that I’ve taken with my mobile.

Here’s what I’ve done to my desk at work, thus far.

I later added some zwinkies, at least I think that’s what they’re called, of the Spongebob Squarepants family.

The time I thought I found Oscar the Grouches home.

I recently chopped over 9 inches of hair and decided to share the before and after.

I, apparently, love before and after pictures.

and my love for collages is endless

I’ve been asked before if I’m embarrassed sharing pictures of myself looking horrendous or making ugly faces. I’m really not, their was a time when I was but forced myself to accept the many shades of ugly that are lurking in the shadows or the ones that don’t lurk at all. I refuse to be one of those girls that only posts pretty pictures of themselves at all the right angles because that’s not who I am. I’d be lying to myself if I only ever did that or if I photoshopped the shit out of myself ALL THE TIME. I don’t think I’ll ever understand that. You should embrace the good, bad, ugly, hideous, horrendous and beautiful sides of yourself. Even the wrinkles that are forming or will form.

Thrifty Finds 6/365

My sister lured me out of my cave with some starbucks and thrift store shopping, yesterday. I could never have been able to say no. Ahh, thrift stores. I love them so much, their is always something amazing to discover and it’s for a fraction of the original price!

As we were driving there, their was this thing hanging from one of the buildings. It almost reminded me of a mandala.

That day, it seemed, was my day! I found some of the most amazing finds. As soon as we walked up to the store my sister and mom were mumbling something. Turns out they were questioning whether I would get the sombrero or not. Uhm hello family, of course I’m getting the sombrero. It’s not even a question! It’s not a traditional sombrero but still I’ll take it!

Along with my sombrero find, I also found the love of my life (or new love of my life). He’s large and in charge. Meet Coronet XL. He’s lovely, beautiful and makes wonderful noises and sends my heart into a majestical dance. ImageImageImageImageImage

Ah. He’s all mind and I’ve decided to name him Aragorn. 🙂

And lastly, I found this thing. One of the workers was dumping a whole bunch of the things on the same aisle and feared for it’s safety so I grabbed it and It was a friggin cat lady in a jar! An actual cat as a lady! Who would dump such a thing?

Image

Initially, I didn’t realize you could pull it out but boy was I surprised and elated that I could! She’s beautiful!!

I have named her Agnes and she’s all sorts of wonderful. I also found an old 70’s or maybe 80s handheld radio. It’s lovely but I left it in my sisters car and didn’t get to take pictures of it. Womp, womp, womp.

All in all these have been some of the best thrift store finds, ever! And project 365 is going pretty, pretty, pretty. . . pretty good!

😀

Stops, Oddities and Dallas

I proved to be quite the fanatic. For the second time ever we drove to see Marina and the Diamonds. On our way there we snapped a bunch of pictures. ImageImageImageImageThis is a scenic turnout in Oklahoma that I happen to find amazing. I hadn’t been there in quite some time and I still find it to be wonderful, even if it was covered in graffiti. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageBefore the show, we had some time to kill and I really wanted to go to some thrift stores/antique stores. Initially, we were supposed to go to another one but it was closed but fortunately Dolly Python wasn’t disappointing.

I’ve never been enthused about going to Dallas, something about it just never appealed to me, but this store completely changed my mind about how I feel about the city. This shop is amazing with all its oddities and treasures.

Tomorrow is Thursday

It’s Wednesday. I hate Wednesday. ::sigh::

But what better way to cheer myself up than to spend it shopping at the Goodwill. I love shopping at the Goodwill or any second hand store, it’s like opening up a treasure box each and every time. You’re never sure what you’ll find and it’s always fun to think of what kind of memories the previous owner had in them — did they enjoy the best day ever, find themselves, or perhaps find a new love in those garments? Or did they weep for a loved one, face an obstacle that they could no longer be reminded of, betray a loved one, die, or commit a treacherous crime in those garments?  I will never know but it’s fun to think about.

Today, I met up with my dear friend and found delightful treasures — that we hope to photograph at a later point. The possibilities of these finds are endless and it fills my darkened heart with much joy. 🙂

These are the finds.

It’s very wrinkled and not ready for presentation but as I’ve decided to include some form of media with each and every one of my posts, I had no choice but to share. Image

I haven’t decided what this dress will be used for, perhaps a circus theme or a Marina and the Diamonds inspired shoot. Either way, I am delighted to call it mine. 🙂

My cat was also quite fond of it, he’s very stylish.

This one is fun with its adorable polka-dots and high-class button. I know nothing of style nor fashion but I do enjoy pretty things.

I also found an adorable moo cow.

She’s very fancy.

And moo-rific.

hehe.

I’m glad that I find myself to be quite hilarious or is it sad? Either way, I’m stuck with me forever. . . may as well laugh at my own pathetic attempt at jokes.
